The Recipe: Vanilla Ice Cream

adapted from the Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker manual/cookbook

2 cups whole milk
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup heavy cream
1-2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Mix the whole milk and sugar in a bowl with a hand mixer (on low speed) or a whisk for a few minutes, until the sugar is dissolved.  Stir in the heavy cream and vanilla extract.  Mix well.  Freeze the mixture in your ice cream maker, according to the unit's directions.  (In the case of the Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker: turn on the unit, pour in your milk-cream-sugar-vanilla mixture and allow it to spin around in the machine for 25-30 minutes or until nice and thick!)

If desired, you can add in extras (crumbled Oreos, nuts, chocolate chips, etc.) during the last 5 minutes.
